What is organic cotton and why is it more sustainable?
Organic cotton is cotton which is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or chemicals. This means it is kinder to the soil it grows in and to the air around it. It also uses over 85% less water to produce than regular cotton and over 65% less energy. Organic cotton uses natural as opposed to artificial inputs. Not only is it better for the environment, organic cotton is also more durable than regular cotton as it is not exposed to weakening chemicals. This makes it stronger and softer than regular cotton.
About Just Basixx
Just Basixx is an independent Irish owned sustainable clothing brand which Róisín Lenehan started during lockdown. Just Basixx design and sell sustainable basics to help you feel good every day of the week. They are passionate about sustainability and protecting the world we live in and believe that if everyone makes simple changes everyday then together we can make a big difference.
“Just Basixx was born out of a very simple problem – I need more socks! After searching far and wide it soon became apparent that the choice of good quality and sustainable socks was very limited, particularly here in Ireland. So, here we are today!”
Just Basixx ensure they use the most sustainable materials from trusted sources. Their organic cotton is grown in Egypt and manufactured in Europe. The yarn they use is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) which is the world’s leading textile processing standard for organic fibres including both ecological and social criteria. They use regenerated polyamide to strengthen the sock! The yarn is regenerated from the waste of raw materials in the earlier production process. It is ecologically sustainable and is OEKO-TEX STD 100 Class 1 as well as being certified by the Global Recycled Standard.
